This is not your typical love story...
But it's a good one. At least we're partial to it. Kate was in her second year of neurology residency in Kansas City. Dave was in his last year of his PhD in Atlanta. Daniel and Olivia, who were Kate's close friends since college at Oglethorpe, had recently met Dave through church at Trinity Anglican Mission. Daniel and Olivia thought Dave and Kate might want to talk to each other. And they were right. But even they probably didn't suspect how right. Dave and Kate started texting on a Saturday in August, and on that following Wednesday Dave bought a ticket to Kansas. That's how dating works right?
If you're wondering what they even texted about that resulted in a ticket to Kansas City days later, it's shockingly nerdy. They talked about myasthenia gravis, the likelihood of Dave being catfished, and superhero movies. But they also talked about their sincere desire to pursue a relationship with God, find meaning and joy in the work they do, love the people around them, and build a beautiful family. In less than a week.
Dave flew up to Kansas City the first weekend of September. After a hilarious 72 hours which included Dave breaking Kate's sandal during their first date, an earthquake, Dave having a night terror, and Kate getting a spontaneous nose bleed, the two were rightfully and obviously smitten. This sounds like an instant rom-com classic doesn't it?
Nine months and tens of thousands of frequent flier miles, phone minutes, and text messages later, Dave proposed to Kate during a family vacation on a perfect day in beautiful Charleston SC. Kate never saw it coming. Or so Dave likes to believe.
Excitement, anticipation, pure joy - these are the feelings that pass through us when we think about our relationship and our commitment to love and honor each other for the rest of our lives. We would not be the people we are, or be in a place to participate in the absolute delight of marriage if it weren't for you, our friends and family. Our hearts are so full of gratitude that you are a part of our story, and that we are a part of yours. We are so glad you want to join us on our wedding day.
